Synopsis

A documentary about the unraveling of the Aceh peace process. The filmmaker intersperses footage on the spiralling violence and interviews with all parties to the negotiations with his coverage of a snake-oil merchant selling his formula that cures all ills to gullible Acehnese buyers. “Abracadabra!” evokes both the notion that as if by magic, there was euphoria that peace was at hand in December 2002 when the ceasefire agreement was signed, and that by March, when the film was made, the whole thing was as much a fraud as the merchant’s lotion.
